There are three basic categories of network topologies:

• physical topologies
• signal topologies
• logical topologies

There are six basic types of topology in networks:

• Bus topology
• Star topology
• Ring topology: double ring - max redundancy
• Mesh topology - max redundancy
• Tree topology
• Hybrid topology
